The program consists of five areas: development theories, development models, development administration and techniques, development research, and social mobilization strategies. Development studies draw on perspectives from the fields of political science, economics, public administration, sociology, anthropology, history, management, and community development.

Skills to be learned are theory-development and model building, action-oriented research, administration, and management techniques for social mobilization.
