The Bachelor in Human Services is designed to train professionals who can assist individuals and communities to function effectively across major domains of living, which are related to mental health and wellbeing. This area of study uniquely approaches the objective of meeting human needs through a multidisciplinary knowledge base, focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems to improve quality of human lives. The program is based on a multidisciplinary approach drawing knowledge from human services, counseling, psychology, and education and emphasizes the application of human services competencies to facilitate client change related to mental health and well-being through individual and group interventions. It also integrates evidence-based practice as a framework for teaching professional courses and utilizes the Lasallian Guiding Principles as critical lens for understanding social realities and human development as well as in identifying action plans for facilitating client change. The field experience gained through the program provides opportunities to explore career opportunities through placements in school-based and education-related mental health programs and work settings. Graduates of the program can pursue master’s or doctoral degrees in counseling. To qualify for the licensure examinations for guidance counselors in the Philippines, a BS in Human Services graduate needs to finish a master’s degree in counseling.
